Up on 8.10. Read. Had three hours lectures. Then collage lunch, but didn’t feel a bit like it. Spent afternoon finishing essay and writing home. D went home in middle of afternoon to go to Dunnies. Then had tea in collage and went to a lecture on ethical relativity - quite interesting. Came down on 6.34. Read some of the way. Letter from N. got ready for bed and listened to wireless.
Friday 2nd
Up on early train and read some of way. Had philosophy lecture - somebody said Joad is one of the examiners for this in our finals! Worked for an hour and then two more lectures. Had college lunch and went out for a little stroll. Bumped into an Aunt of D's whom she hadn't seen since the war - lives just near Baker Street. Most eccentric sort of person - but a dear little dog. Did some more work. The went with D up to the doctor in Finchley Road. She has been having a pain in her back lately and thinks it may be from falling off a hay rick last summer. She was quite a long time in there - till I began to be a bit worried. But when she came out after a thorough pummeling - she said it was only a sprained pelvis - nothing very serious - and he can manipulate it. back into college in time to see the play 'The Cradle Song' that the dramatic society are putting on and not at all badly done actually. Afterwards the four of us, D., C., Mary Mencer and self went to Lyons for supper. Then met Brian and came down on last train. Lights were out in one, coming in we were able to go to sleep - and to make quite sure Brian removed the bulbs! In bed just after 1. Small parcel from home with just vest in it.
Saturday 3rd
Peaceful sort of day. Letter from Mummy. Up about 8.30. Breakfast, a bath and then washed hair, and D set it for me - she does it just as well as any professional hairdresser. Had fairly early lunch and then to pictures to see Tommy Trinder in 'Champagne Charlie' - a most unusual film which I thoroughly enjoyed. Tea at B R and the back for supper and lazy evening - listened to wireless and half asleep most of the time.
Sunday 4th
Quite a nice day - up about 9.30 lazy breakfast and then up to town on 11.10 - afraid I'd miss it as Kim followed me and had to take him back - but got it nicely. Read D's new book 'Frenchman's Creek' - and of course didn't go to sleep over that! Met Janet at 12.30 and we went down to M where Joan Fuller net us. Had Morden where Joan Fuller met us. Had lunch there and tea with a beautifully peaceful afternoon of gossiping - ate too much of course! Arranged to go to theatre sometimes. Then back in time to get 7.24 - read again - got halfway through the book. Brian and his sister there when I got in. Bed soon after 11. Must write one or two letters tomorrow.
Monday 5th
Up on 8.40 - read. Then posted a parcel and went round to Marylebone library - but couldn't find what I wanted. Wrote home and did some more reading. A psychology lecture - he never lectures for more than half hour. Didn’t feel like lunch so had a sandwich and came back down with D. on the 1.24 slept most of the time I'm afraid! Then worked resto of day - reading - have one more essay to do - on primitive women. bed early as don't seem to have had many hours last week.
Tuesday 6th March
Up on 8.40. Read - did an hours work and then had two hours lectures. Lunch in college - went to New Theater and booked seats for Richard III. on Friday afternoon. Back for little potter in the library and then met Jill Coventon and several others and we went to her rooms to tea and began the foundations of an informal sociology discussion group - got very interested - discussing whether sociology is religion - very compatible. Jill seems to have no need for religion - her arguments are reasonable - and yet I know that Go exists - if only they was some way of convincing people like her - the sociology makes it all the more difficult - because accepts a obey ethical standards - and all very muddling - I can fit my sociology with my religion, in fact it seems to help - but so many people stumble over it. So interested that missed the 6.34 and had to wait till 7.24 - read for 1 1/2 hours so didn’t really waste time. Bought some of sweet nation. Letter from Mummy.
Wednesday 7th
Up on 8.40. Read. Worked a bit in college - D had her results on an exam she did recently - got B - which was a big improvement - also beat C. Went to early lunch and then out for a bit of a prowl - to the Marylebone library and then into Smiths. Back to college and worked - then a lecture - and then tea. Went with D to the doctors again to have her back manipulated a bit more and then to catch 6.34. Had a snack at Waterloo. read on the train finishing a book. Wrote letter to Georgie, four letters today - Daddy, Joyce, Betty and refund money on ticket I had to buy the other day when I let my season ticket at home.
Thursday 8th
Up on 8.10 - Read. Had lectures all morning. Then lunch in college - which made me feel just sick - cauliflower cheese - uhg! Pottered out and around the park a bit as it’s a glorious day - and then wrote home. Spent rest of afternoon making a start on the last essay of the term. Had tea at 4. Met D soon after 5 and we came down on the 5.54 - quite well on time. Read. Supper - listened to wireless - a bath - and bed.
Friday 9th
Up on 7.32. Read. Lecture at 9. Then an hour of copying out notes - and two more lectures. D went to meet her mother at the Piccadilly so C and I had lunch together in college - then met D. outside the New Theater. saw Laurence Oliver in Richard III. - a wonderful performance - those plays at the New just get me - they're the best I've ever seen. Laurence Oliver just writhes in agony and shields at the end. Caught the 5.14 just in time and got to Wok. so C could catch the bus. Spent quiet evening gossiping and fairly early bed.
Saturday 10th
Up about 9. Lazy breakfast - bath and washed some stockings - then did bit of work for rest of morning. Early church and then we went to the pictures to see 'Murder in Thornton Square' - quite exciting - I suppose its having seen so many more films that I'm much more critical of these then of plays. Had tea at B.R. and cycled home, by Dunnies. Brian is down at Plymouth for about 10 days on a job so expect he will be missed at Pye Hill this weekend. Mended stockings during evening and listened to wireless. Letter from Mummy and from N' Yesterday.
